Little Black Girl From The Bay

Our Mission

At Little Black Girl From The Bay Productions, we produce bold, narrative-driven films that honor the complexity of Black womanhood. We challenge tokenizing stereotypes by creating authentic stories and supporting artists reclaiming their narratives. Through our filmmaking, we broaden cultural representation and enrich the storytelling landscape.

Our Vision

To redefine the cultural landscape by expanding and re-imagining representations of Black womanhood through bold, cinematic storytelling—liberating the "Strong Black Woman" narrative from tokenism and empowering artists to reclaim their stories and reshape the canon for generations to come.

Our Mentorship Initiative

“Lifting as we climb,” the words of Mary McLeod Bethune, serves as the guiding motto of our mentorship initiative. We are dedicated to creating spaces where women—especially women of color—can shine, grow, and share their artistry. Our commitment includes providing hands-on opportunities for youth and young adults to learn the craft of filmmaking directly on set.

During the production of Brief Exchanges, 80% of our department heads were women, reflecting our intentional approach to leadership and representation. We were also honored to host two student interns who worked side-by-side with our diverse cast and crew, gaining valuable experience and mentorship throughout the filmmaking process.
